M1M1K & Me

For as long as I can remember I have expressed myself through clothing. Even at a young age, my momma fought me on what I wore daily because it wasn't acceptable attire, basically it didn't match, or lets be real, I looked flat out ridiculous. But I was expressing myself.  As I have gotten older I feel I have been developing my personal style through trial & error, comfort, influences of friends, environment, etc. & I think after over 2 decades, I've finally got it.

While on a break between semesters during my second year of college I started my very first t-shirt line Taboo Tee's (soooooo cheesy, i know). I had no clue what I was doing, but with the help of a high school friend who had recently finished at FIDM I was able to sell my designs at her consignment shop. This is when I first realized I wanted to be involved in the fashion world. It was so fun creating something I could be proud of. As the break ended I headed back to college and started to pursue Clothing Construction and Fashion Design through my university. I loved what I was learning, but felt a strong pull to pursue a career in the beauty industry, putting my dreams of fashion on the back burner and fully focusing on making people pretty.

Fast forward a few years, I was working full time at a salon in sunny San Diego & almost daily I would get compliments on my wardrobe. At this point fashion blogs were very, very few in number. I had a friend encourage me to start taking pictures and uploading them on the internet. This seemed ludicrous to me. Who would want to see my daily outfits? I would do it here & there never really committing to the idea. Man, what was I thinking?

Fast forward another year or so... I was all blog talk for a long time, "I should start a blog", "How fun would it be to have a blog?" I mean everyone was doing it.....Finally with the encouragement of my best friend & my unemployed-ment status I finally had the time & the drive to do it. Little did I know the doors that would open. Here I was back on the fashion train.

Back in January of this year I played around with a sassy t-shirt line called Fancy & Free Tee's. It was such a fun venture but with everything else I was pursuing it felt to the way side. Over the past year or so I have expressed my desire to design my own clothing to only a few people. One of these people in particular has always had the same desire. We decided to go for it and pursue our dream together. and that's how M1M1K started. Two friends with the same dream, working together sharing our individuality and passion to create something we are both so proud of.

Mimi Knowles is the man behind the brand & I am the head designer. Together we are having the time of our lives doing big things. We are so excited to be sharing this with all of you & are so grateful for the support we have already received!

We were fortunate enough to have a fun shoot with our friend Jaci who is an incredible photographer.

Come say hi to us at the Scera Shell Amphitheater today for the Final Four Show for Stadium of Fire! We will have brand new designs in the spirit of summer.

Huge thank you to Mimi for trusting me to design with him & for encouraging me to take risks every day.
This is pretty spot on for us. What's better than pursuing your dreams with your best friend by your side? nothing.
